Market Needs:

Many retail chains and fast food groups want to overlay serial till transaction data onto CCTV video footage, especially in live monitoring environments. We were asked to develop a cost effective IP based solution for several major retail chains, to no avail. We could not find any suitable IP solution and resorted to co-developing this product.

In the field, POS tills either only had one serial output port like Micros, or in the case of others like DigiPOS, the four serial ports are all used by various peripherals. The main concern we found is the software labs of big corporates refuse to alter their software in any way to provide mirrored serial data on available ports, if any, because every site is different. There is no easy standard. They want a solution in which they have to make no software changes at all.

View SAMPLES at bottom of this page After a year of hunting, custom development, and frustrated testing, we have a robust solution to offer the world. We have developed a box which can be placed in-line of an existing serial cable, the bi-directional communication between device and host is not interfered with at all. The push-data is "sniffed" and relayed to virtual serial port or can be read from a TCP port by the VMS. The transaction data is then overlaid in the video management system for searchable keyword and video referencing.

The system has proved to be very stable and reliable, even in a wireless remote monitoring environment many miles apart. Our system was extensively tested by a major retail chain in South Africa with 6 month 24/7 pilot and will soon roll out into their nationwide network of stores. Our dealers are currently in talks with well-known fast food groups to explore how they can combat shrinkage and facilitate better staff and process management.

We have 2 versions available:

  • 2 TILL Device (or device/terminal 2 serial ports) 2 input ports, 2 output ports.
  • 4 TILL Device (or device/terminal 4 serial ports) 4 input ports, 4 output ports.

  • eg. A site with 10 POS tills would require 2 x 4 TILL (8 port) and 1 x 2 TILL (4 port) devices.

The solution was originally developed to work with exacqVision VMS but it will work with any IP based VMS which can read virtual COM ports or TCP ports. The exacqVision VMS and Hybrid technologies Distributor for AFRICA is also: KENSEI Enteprise Security CC.
